Child care is the foundation of our community.

Everyone benefits when families have access to quality child care.

Our vision is affordable and accessible quality child care options for all families in Wyandotte County to create the thriving workforce - and community - we need for raising the next generations.

Who we are.

Raising WYCO is a committed group of early education, community, and business leaders committed to engaging a broad coalition of community stakeholders to identify feasible and sustainable solutions for improving local child care access.

Raising WYCO has identified three critical child care gaps:

1) The existing supply of child care in Wyandotte County does not meet the demand of the community’s families, especially families with infants and toddlers.

2) Workforce challenges are further threatening the existing supply of child care in the community.

3) The current level of public and private investments is not sufficient enough to address these important and impactful issues.

To address these concerns, Raising WYCO is working to:

1) Prioritize child care access issues in community decision-making.

2) Elevate the experiences of families and child care providers in the community.

3) Reduce existing barriers for child care providers to expand or create child care slots.

4) Actively explore community level strategies to improve child care workforce recruitment, retention, and compensation.

5) Actively explore community, state, and federal strategies and mechanisms for increasing child care investments.

The estimated annual economic impacts of child care gaps (combined household, business, & tax revenue) range from 151.7M to 232.5M in Wyandotte County. Future impacts (10 years) may be as high as 376.3M to 576.2M.
